Leif, Colin & Julie - Angus Family

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Boy, oh boy,  Leif has some incredibly large and adventurous shoes to fill!  Seven month old, Leif's mom and dad are Colin and Julie Angus of Angus Adventures.  Be sure to stop by their website and check out their amazing stories!  When I read up a little bit on this family, I wanted to try and do something unique that suited their personalities and lifestyle.  Luckily, I happened to be at a friend's house prior to this session and spotted the cute little boat that you will see in some of the images.  Without revealing the secrets to the success of the boat photos, I will mention that we did achieve them with little Leif's safety as the main priority.  With a little editing, it ended up looking more risky than it actually was :)

Thanks to the Angus family for this awesome opportunity to photograph your family and for being so open to my ideas!

To anyone who is considering hiring me for a session, please keep in mind that your session can be as creative and suited to you as you desire.  I am a very open and relaxed person and I am willing to put in some work to make your portraits special.

Desmond

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Two year old, Desmond, was a little shy at first, but as we walked around he started to warm up to the camera.  I never know if it helps or hurts when I start singing to these poor children (I know that their parents must  be wishing for ear plugs!)  Desmond and his mama, Christine, were the victims to my screeching rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...sorry guys!

Check out how cute Desmond it huddled up against his mom's leg and then you can see how he warms up by the end of our 30 minute mini session.  Either way, he's totally adorable!

Sharene, Bruce and Rio!

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

When I hit 750 likes on my Facebook page a while back, I did a random draw for a free session.  Sharene was the winner and she decided to do family photos.  We held back for a couple of months to wait for some warmer weather and for a bit of green to arrive in the forest where this adorable family likes to spend a lot of time.  Six year old, Rio, was so great and seemed to actually enjoy having his photo taken!

Also, we decided that skunk cabbage is kinda pretty :)  Thanks to this great family for maintaining a fun and positive energy throughout our session, it was a lot of fun!

Hailey, Bodhi & Baby Belly

Monday, April 11, 2011 | |

Most women wear pregnancy beautifully, and I don't think I even need to say it, but Hailey makes pregnancy look exponentially beautiful.  It was hard for me to choose images to blog as there were so many gorgeous ones.
We went to a couple of different spots to capture these photographs, including one of Hailey and Bodhi's favorite summer spots.  Although Hailey manages to fool the eye into thinking it was warm during our sunny evening shoot, it was definitely a chilly excursion!
Thanks again to this lovely couple for inviting me to photograph this special time for them :)

FYI: The beautiful feather hair piece that Hailey is wearing in some of the photos was made by a talented local girl.  Check out her website to find contact information and samples of her work here at Petite Whimsy.

Kathleen, Ryan and a Belly Full of Twins

Thursday, April 7, 2011

It must have been so exciting for this couple when they found out that they are having twins.  The hard part was probably breaking the news to their "fur baby", a sweet rottweiler, who they chose to include in the maternity session.  No doubt he will have a lot of competition when these babies arrive in a few weeks!

We decided to do our session at the home of expectant parents, Ryan and Kathleen, in Campbell River.  I was happy to go there and start thinking about some ideas for their newborn photos (which I am really excited to do!)

Wishing Kathleen and Ryan the best of luck with the delivery of their babies and I am so looking forward to coming back to meet them!

The Kennedy's Say Farewell

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 | |

This session took place over two separate days with almost a month between them.

The first time around we were celebrating little Archer's first birthday as well as getting some photos with Nana while she was visiting from out of town!

The second part of the session was to get some photos of this cute family of four.  The Kennedy's are preparing themselves right now for a big move from the Comox Valley all the way to Calgary.  You will probably recognize this family from many of my other photos and you also most likely know mama, Chelsea, as one of the co-owners of Firefly : New Beginnings on 5th Street - don't worry, the store will remain open!  As the Kennedy's get ready to go, we decided to get a few photos in front of their home here in Courtenay (not to be confused with the junk yard the we also went to).  Haha.

Good luck friends!!!  The Valley is losing some Grade A citizens here, I hope Calgary appreciates you!
